Nigeria to restrict Flights from UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia in retaliation over Omicron COVID-19 ban

News

Nigeria is set to restrict flights from Canada, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia into the country with effect from Tuesday, December 14, the minister of Aviation has said.

Capt. Hadi Sirika, the minister announced this in Lagos on Sunday, with the explanation that the decision was to reciprocate these countries’ restriction of flights from Nigeria into over Omicron, the new COVID-19 variant.

“They are not supposed to come in. I am very sure in the next three days; Monday or Tuesday, all those countries will be put on the red list of COVID-19,’’ Sirika said.

According to him, Nigeria would also place the United Kingdom, Canada and Saudi Arabia on a red list over the outbreak and spread of the Omicron variant, in retaliation for a similar action they took against the country.

He noted that these countries do not deserve to be allowed to flights their aircraft into Nigeria for commercial purposes.
